boy, am i running late today! i've been procrastinating so much recently - not really my style - and it's been getting me into some trouble. it has to do with the end of the school year, i'm sure, and i'm counting down the days to our vacation in late june - forty-one and counting! 

new porch mates.

we hung baskets of ferns along the edge of our porch, never expecting the birds to take a liking to them. upon watering them one day, we saw a carefully crafted nest tucked between the leaves. after a couple of days, five tiny blue eggs appeared. the eggs hatched sometime on friday; they're not the cutest, but we're kind of enamored with them. the mama bird keeps careful watch over the nest and spends most of her day darting in and out of the plant. as i brushed the leaves out of the way yesterday, the birds instinctively turned their heads my direction and opened their mouths, ready for a snack. i'm nervous about the mother bird becoming skittish and afraid of the porch so we're trying to use the back door as much as we can.

i'm running around like a nut today! my kids and i are working on a huge brazil project and my room is currently in the midst of a transformation into a facebook wall, travel agency, and rainforest. the kids are all getting different roles in the project, from travel agent to macaw to samba instructor. the end result is going to be awesome, but the process getting there is proving to be a bit hectic.

this is what i wore to the goat races that i posted about yesterday. i wanted to wear my dirndl but bryan said i'd look like i was in costume. pshhh. 

sly fox bock fest and goat races.

one of the best things about living in the philadelphia area is all of the great breweries that surround the city. there's always some sort of event, tasting, or tour going on. bryan's a huge beer person (he used to brew his own) so he always has his ear to the ground about beer related happenings. sly fox brewery was holding their annual bock fest and goat races; basically, they close of their entire parking lot, serve lots of sausages and beer, and have goats race each other. it's totally hilarious watching the goat's owner trying to walk the goat around the lot - they sure are stubborn animals!

it's been such a dreary week so far - my favorite kind of weather. i know it's a bit odd, but i seriously cannot stand sunny days. the sun hurts my eyes like crazy, and there's something about driving or riding through patches of shadows that makes me dizzy. totally weird, but i can't help it. chestnut hill seems to have different weather than the rest of the city; i think the mass amount of trees surrounding the town must have something to do with it. if the weather would just warm up a bit - maybe hit the high 80's - and i'd be in heaven.

second annual kentucky derby party.

wade held his second annual kentucky derby party on saturday; we don't really watch or celebrate the horses, it's more of an excuse to eat delicious food and wear silly costumes. i tried a more subtle costume this year, as last year's hat made it difficult to even walk through the doorway.
